This is Wayne…I have a lot of fantastic memories of THE CONNIE DUNGS but us going to record the “Missy And Johnny” seven inch is one of my favorites. HARMLESS RECORDS gave us $40.00 to record the record. MUTANT POP RECORDS and Timbo kicked in the rest (he always believed in us) because he (and we) thought there would eventually be some sort of singles collection. We ended up recording nine songs in one night in a four hour session. Are the recordings perfect? Holy smoke—far from it!!! But, I think the seven inch record of MISSY AND JOHNNY perfectly captures four young men from north eastern Kentucky, who took their punk rock lessons from the RAMONES, the DEAD KENNEDYS, THE QUEERS and SCREACHING WEASEL…learning how to play music together. My little brother and DUNGS drummer, Chris (should have his own band), just nailed every take (he was/is much more than “just a drummer”), Brandon’s vocals were incredibly inspired (we learned in the first practice that he was “THE LYRIC DUDE” and should not be challenged), and John played his parts so perfectly (John was and IS a machine—learned so much from him in the beginning and in the 2011 shows)…I was just happy to be along for the ride! As the years passed, we changed…BUT, the passion of the early records can not be matched.
